Be Safe on the Water, At Any Age
National Safe Boating Week, May 16-22, is a good time for adults who boat to review safe and responsible practices for cruising our nation’s waterways. According to the U.S. Coast Guard, sponsor of National Safe Boating Week, some key safe practices include: At age 50 and older, it is also important to check your balance and other boating-related abilities that can change with age. The Coast Guard notes that adults age 50 and older are involved in 31 percent of boating-related deaths and 14 percent of injuries. The National Safety Council has partnered with the Coast Guard to create a pamphlet for boaters older than 50 years of age and a safety checklist for boaters of all ages.
